Oh, the holiday season! If this was a movie instead of real life, we’d all wake up at noon, be independently wealthy, and have walk-in closets the size of bedrooms. We’d spend the day getting glam, then go out in holiday finery and have a wonderful time. Sadly, it’s not a movie….sigh. We have to go to work and then go to either a corporate event, party, or even a fundraiser or two during the holiday season. Ho, ho, ho, exhaustion!
You can’t drag a rolling rack of clothes with you everywhere you go. I mean, it would be nice if it were accompanied by some hawt cabana boys, you know... to make sure nothing falls off the rack. And they'd perk you up when you're feeling tired. But you can’t do that... No more talk about cabana boys and their short short…STOP. Okay. Let’s get back to the program.
You need to look sharp and competent at work. You also want to look glam at the corporate party, cocktail party, friend’s dinner and all those holiday dos. You don't want to be exhausted trying to figure out what to wear and where to change. Here’s what you do.
First of all, look for dresses and separates that can transition from the office to a resto. Switch shoes and accessories and you’re good to go. Secondly, buy an item (it could be a pair of tailored trousers or a skirt for example) that with a switch of a top and/or a pair of shoes, goes from cubicle to gala. That’s the principle behind each of these body type picks.
Go to the ladies room in your office, or close your office door and make the switch, then leave for the event. Whew!
Don’t just read about your own body type; peruse the other ones for style tips you can use all year long.
Curvy
Little Mistress Curvy orange floral Bardot organza dress, $90.59, Ellen Tracy reverse lapel blazer, $129.50, Rudy Reindeer sequin clutch bag, $20, Rosemary fringed shopper day bag, $30, Black tie lace up heels, $15.99, Danielle Stevens multi direction hinge bracelet, $22, Danielle Stevens Aztec Dreams chandliers, $24, Black embroidered fringe shawl, $76.99, Aurora Borealis crystal marquis twist hair clip, $7.50, American West mixes metal red coral set of three bangle bracelet $179.99.
This is the type of dress that you can dress up or down all year long. When it’s really cold, wear it with a chunky cropped sweater and flat boots on the weekends. For work, pair it with the black blazer, and then go glam with the velvet shawl at night. Toss your evening accessories and shoes in the tailored shopper. The bangle set can be worn both for work and for the party too.
Tall
Long Tall Sally clean sharp slim suit pant, $95, Repetto low cut pump Bianca metallic goatskin suede, $425, Orvis Mixed stitch lambswool blazer, $179, Orvis plaid chiffon popover, $79, Vintage glamour watch, $49.95, Royal blue faceted triangle lever back earrings, $22, Clover Canyon short sleeve sequin mesh top, $198, Lamarie clutch in red glitter, $48.
Leggy gals can take a pair of sleek, well cut pants and turn them into a fashion editorial standout. For day, pair the trousers with a plaid shirt, knitted blazer and shoes with personality. At the end of the day, throw on the confetti colored blouse, grab that sparkly clutch, put those earrings on and grab a glass of champagne.
Petite
Parker Lorraine dress in black, $208, Topshop ribbed zip cardigan, $75, Aerosoles Red Hot patent pump $69, American West black spinel and hematite earrings, $69.99, Rhinestone nubuck heels, $15.99, Black faux leather belt, $11.25, Sorial Vivianne clutch, $295
The same principle used in the curvy gal body type applies to this dress too. You can dress it up or down with flat boots, a blazer, pullover sweater, or even a sweatshirt. The options are endless. Under the florescent lights, wear the dress with the zippered cardi, add the belt for eye candy and keep it low key with black patent pumps. After six, dump the cardi, switch out your shoes and add those swinging earrings. You might want to borrow curvy’s velvet wrap too.
Average
Gold and rhinestone zig zag bar bracelet, $10.88, Mia geometric print skirt, $30, Textured chevron stitch sweater, $34.94, American West mixed metal earrings, $34.99, Ted Baker Emmilye cropped embellished top, $295, Nina Play 2 honey kid suede pump, $148, Nina Flip black patent pumps, $90, Patricia Nash fur Van Sannio tri-fold convertible clutch, $199
Like tall gals, average height women can wear any skirt or pant length and rock it. During the holiday season, invest in a personality skirt like the Mia from BooHoo.com. In the office, wear inky black tights, the royal blue sweater, those fun Nina pumps and if you want to, the dangling earrings. At the end of day, switch to sheer black hose, wear the sexy ankle strap patent pumps, add glitz to your arms and solid color top says “Cocktail!” Okay, I know it doesn’t but you’ll look fab!
